UniCredit Foundation, in line with its ongoing commitment to supporting youth and education, is launching a series of calls for applications in 2023, focusing on Economics and Finance, aimed at all countries where UniCredit operates to benefit European graduates and researchers. There will be 8 competitions for 29 scholarships and research grants, awarded solely on merit, with a total amount of around 1.5 million euros.
These calls for proposals by UniCredit Foundation have a dual objective. On one hand, they aim to support students' specialization abroad by pursuing doctoral programs at renowned universities, and on the other hand, they aim to encourage brain gain by facilitating the return of talented individuals.
Through the Crivelli, Marco Fanno, and Saccomanni Scholarships, the Foundation offers the best talents the opportunity to enroll in prestigious Economics and Finance Ph.D. programs at renowned international universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Chicago Booth, Stanford, and MIT. These are 7 scholarships, each worth 65,000 euros, for a total of 455,000 euros.
Additionally, UniCredit Foundation promotes eight Master Scholarships, each worth about 40,000 euros, totaling 300,000 euros. These scholarships allow students to participate in one-year Master's programs at renowned European universities such as the Barcelona School of Economics, London School of Economics, Mannheim University, Oxford University, Sciences Po, Stockholm School of Economics, Toulouse School of Economics, and Bocconi University in Milan.
In the context of research support and brain gain, the Foundation has allocated 655,000 euros for 2023. This includes calls for proposals directly targeting university departments involved in attracting talent, such as the Foscolo Europe Top-up Fellowship (3 three-year scholarships, each worth 150,000 euros) and the Marco Fanno Fellowship, exclusively for Italian public universities (2 three-year scholarships, each worth 60,000 euros).
Furthermore, through the Modigliani Research Grant, 4 two-year scholarships worth 20,000 euros each are made available to researchers from any European university to carry out research projects in economics or finance. Finally, thanks to the Econ Job Market Best Paper Award, in collaboration with the European Economic Association, 5 grants of 1,000 euros each will be awarded for the best paper presented by young economists.
UniCredit Foundation recently awarded 20 students and researchers who were winners of the Foundation's competitions in 2022, with a total amount of approximately €1.5 million allocated.
