Sixteen unique artworks belonging to the UniCredit Art Collection by the master of "Magic Realism" Antonio Donghi are on show in Rome until 26 May. Our Bank is proud to be the Main Sponsor of this fine initiative, reflecting the objective of making culture accessible to all.
UniCredit is proud to be Main Sponsor of Antonio Donghi's exhibition – La magia del silenzio – at Palazzo Merulana, Rome from the 9th of February until the 26th of May. The exhibition showcases 16 artworks that are part of the UniCredit Art Collection and that come from the Collection exhibited at Palazzo De Carolis, also in Rome.
Antonio Donghi was one of the greatest interpreters of Magic Realism in Italy.
Matured in the shadow of the Return to Order, after the excesses brought about by the Avant-gardes, and by the need for stable and safe references in which to take refuge after the disasters of the war, Donghi pursued and found a kind of 'abstract concreteness' in his artistic career.
A super-reality that would reveal in its apparent verism a veil of true fantastic transformation. He impressed academics and the public alike with his abstract, yet realist imagery. After a critical silence of many decades, starting in the 1980s, he is now considered one of Italy's leading artists.
