Sound, Music! 2014 - The Rite of Spring

One of the most challenging and beautiful pieces in the history of classical music -- Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring -- will be presented this year by UniCredit and the Filarmonica della Scala's  "Sound, Music!" program.

This is the fourth consecutive year of UniCredit's support for the program that teaches classical music appreciation to primary school children in Milan; the initiative was conceived by Filarmonica della Scala director Francesco Micheli , and will be directed by maestro Alessandro Ferrari.

In previous years, "Sound, Music!" has presented Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mozart's Jupiter Symphony.

The choice The Rite of Spring for 2014 coincides with the Filarmonica's calendar of activities dedicated to the Stravinsky's masterpiece. As part of this year's concert season, maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct the orchestra's performance of The Rite of Spring on April 28 at Teatro alla Scala and on May 26 at a special concert in Milan's Piazza Duomo.

"Sound, Music!" 2014 will be divided into three parts:

- music workshops will be held with 1,000 children over the first three days of April at the Fabbrica del Vapore, located on via Procaccini, Milan;

- workshops on movement and body will be held at participating schools from April 28 to May 9;

- three concerts will be performed at the Fabbrica del Vapore. The first two, on May 15 and 16, will be free and only for school students. Tickets for the third concert, on May 17, can be purchased only through the website www.geticket.it.
