The orchestra’s concerts return with "Concert for Italy" and "Autumn Season"
The long awaited return of concert performances is approaching. Starting in September Filarmonica della Scala will kick off with a new, safe, format of performances, the first one being the Concert for Italy (Concerto per l’Italia). The traditional, free for all, concert in Piazza Duomo in Milan, will take place on Sunday 13 September at 8.30pm. Filarmonica della Scala will be conducted by Maestro Riccardo Chailly, with the violinist Maxim Vengerov as a special guest. The program will combine Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the most famous symphonic pages of the Italian opera repertoire, from Don Pasquale to Norma, and from Manon Lescaut to La forza del destino.
The annual event is organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and with support from UniCredit as main partner. This event adds symbolic value for Italy and Europe, sending a message of hope and strength from a community that is bouncing back from being hard hit by pandemic.
Two thousand spectators, socially distanced, will be able to attend the concert, which will be held in the churchyard this year in compliance with health regulations. To get access, a reservation is mandatory and must be done via the Philharmonic website. Registrations will be available from 7 September.
The new schedule of concerts at the Teatro alla Scala, the Autumn Season, will start on 4 October and last until 29 November. On Sunday, 30th August, Filarmonica della Scala, conducted by Fabio Luisi, with Alessandro Taverna on the piano, will be performing at the Ljubljana Festival.
The 2020-2021 season will open this year on 14 December. The Prove Aperte series will resume in the 2020-2021 season.
