UniCredit says thank you to man who handed in money left behind at one of the bank’s ATMs

On 26 December, Khalil Semmah noticed some abandoned banknotes in the ATM drawer of one of UniCredit’s branches in Naples. Despite having lost his job due to Covid, the 51 year-old Italian man of Moroccan origins collected the money – €980 in total – and handed it in to the local police station.

UniCredit has given Khalil a cash reward in recognition of his admirable action.

 

“At first we thought the money had been issued due to a malfunction of the ATM,” explained Annalisa Areni, UniCredit’s Regional Manager for the South of Italy. “But we discovered it had been forgotten by one of our customers who had made a withdrawal transaction which he then tried to cancel, quickly moving away from the ATM convinced it had been cancelled successfully. The amount was unknowingly left in the ATM nozzle. Thankfully, Khalil retrieved the money and handed it over to the police.”

 

Khalil was contacted a few days ago by the manager of the UniCredit branch in Piazza Cavour in Naples, Maria Marletta (in the photo), to receive his reward.

 

The story was reported this week in the newspaper ‘Il Mattino.‘
