Using sustainable transport methods can save you money, improve your health and reduce your environmental footprint. Take the right steps towards a healthier environment with these suggestions

1 For short distance, walk

This may be the simplest and most effective solution there is! Save yourself money by walking to your local destinations. Walking is great exercise, clears your mind and doesn’t require a schedule. Buy stable walking shoes and shoe inserts if you need extra support. Help the environment by getting those legs moving, with family, friends or even a solo stroll… all while respecting social distancing!

2 Cycle instead

Bicycles are an age-old method of getting to the places you need to go. They also won’t ever pollute the environment or cause noise pollution. If buying a bike is too expensive, many large cities offer rental schemes where you can use a bike for a small fee for as many trips as you like per day.

3 Get your skates on

Believe it or not, people do still use roller skates and they are a great way to get around town quickly. They have the added bonus of being able to go where cars and motorcycles can’t. Plus, you will probably be surprised at just how much fun it is to travel on wheels. You also get the added bonus of exercise, which will keep you healthy.

4 Try something new

If you’re feeling futuristic, options like electric bikes, scooters or even the hover board may suit you well. All these options are environmentally friendly modes of transportation and make for an interesting and fun way of getting around. Remember to pay attention to traffic rules!

5 Green driving

If you can’t avoid using a car, reduce your impact by employing these driving techniques:

  • Don’t idle. Turn off your car if stopping for more than ten seconds
  • Drive smoothly. Stopping and starting uses more fuel
  • At low speeds, open your window rather than using your air conditioner
  • Opt for an electric or hybrid vehicle to reduce harmful air pollution from exhaust emissions
