Is that message genuine? Be careful of emails, text messages and WhatsApp messages, as well as fake call centres. Don’t open strange attachments or click on suspicious links.

Use a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Never use the same password for all of your accounts. Change your password every three months. And never give your password to colleagues or friends.

Use a trusted protection package on your devices and make sure your software is up-to-date. Don’t download suspicious looking files or open links from people you don’t trust.

We recommend checking your bank account at least once a week. UniCredit accounts also offer an SMS alert service that instantly notifies you of any transactions that involve money leaving your account. If something doesn’t look right, contact the bank immediately.

When using free wi-fi networks, make sure they are protected, i.e. that you need to sign up to use it or login with a user ID and password supplied by the service provider. Check the security protocols of the websites you visit – look for sites with HTTPS at the beginning.

If you are unsure whether your wi-fi connection is secure, avoid logging onto financial services such as home banking or paying with credit cards.
