UniCredit STUDIO opens in Sofia
UniCredit STUDIO opens in Sofia on January 12, 2012 with the exhibition Time bank, that will be on visible till March 4, 2012.
This is the very first project of the Bulgarian branch and the exhibition topic is the human perception of time.
Time bank is curated by Vera Mlechevska, a well known young Bulgarian curator who has also been co-curator for the exhibition Carte Blanche #2 in Milan and Trento's STUDIOs. She presents works by 4 young promising artists: Bora Petkova and Stanimir Genov from Bulgaria, Agnieszka Kurant from Poland and Keijiro Suzuki from Japan
The project is focusing on the perception of time as purely mental process and on the other hand it approaches the newly released theories about the time and space considering time not like a lineal structure but as chains of moments of now.
The four artists are giving reinterpretation of the topic of this show. They are all sharing interest in time perception but having different visual approach. The strategy tends to break the wall of isolation that still divides the Bulgarian from European art scene. The presence of young contemporary artists from abroad in Bulgaria is still poor and on the other hand Bulgarian artists are mainly presented in their local context. That's why the project put together strategically and conceptually foreign and Bulgarian artists.
The Sofia's STUDIO, the first permanent one open in the CEE countries of the UniCredit's network, is a space hosted in the bank's branch just in front of the Sofia Art Gallery. The formula of the STUDIOs it is an innovative way, ideated by UniCredit, to promote the work of the young talents inside the bank spaces.
