Arena di Verona's Centennial Festival is Coming!

The Arena di Verona will kick off its Centennial Festival 2013 opera season on Friday, June 14, with UniCredit serving as the main partner of the Fondazione Arena di Verona for the 20th consecutive year.

 

Our Group's strong partnership with the Fondazione Arena di Verona represents our continuing commitment to projects that support the social and cultural development of the countries where we operate, as well as to promote activities that are relevant to our business.

The 2012 Arena di Verona Opera Festival featured 50 performances of six major operas, drawing a record 426,390 attendees, or an average of 8,500 people per performance. The performances of Aida drew the largest crowds, attracting 142,400 music fans, followed by Carmen with 110,188 attendees. To date, there has been a sharp increase in ticket sales in comparison with 2012, suggesting that the arena will experience yet another successful season.

 

Over the past century, the annual Arena di Verona Opera Festival has received growing international recognition for inspiring audiences with a love of music, a universal language that transcends national boundaries.

The artistic direction of the 2013 concert season, which includes an exceptional calendar of special events, has been entrusted to the great tenor and renowned conductor, Placido Domingo.

2013 not only marks the festival's centennial, it also commemorates the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi's birth, which is why the repertoire for this year's concert season is almost entirely dedicated to the great Italian composer. The season will open on Friday, June 14, with a new production of Aida, directed by Omer Meir Wellber with the La Fura dels Baus theater group; a second version of the same opera will be presented in August and September using the staging from the opening season in 1913. The festival will also feature performances of such celebrated works as Verdi's Nabucco, La Traviata, Il Trovatore and Rigoletto, as well as Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod.
Three evening Galas are also part of the concert season, as well as a performance of Verdi's Requiem.
