The PinTower photo contest, which invited photographers to submit pictures of Milan "as the city grows," was a great success. Between October 9 and December 6, 2013, we received more than 1,400 images from almost 500 different people. The photographs depict the architectural changes Milan has experienced due to the development of the new Porta Nuova-Garibaldi district. This was the biggest urban requalification project ever undertaken in downtown Milan, and one of the largest such efforts in Europe.
Visitors to Milan can now see the UniCredit Tower and the area that is growing around it from any part of the city. The new skyscrapers, structures, piazzas and gardens of Porta Nuova-Garibaldi serve to enhance Milan's skyline and symbolize the innovation and dynamism of this major business and financial center.
A jury of photography and communications experts evaluated 1,200 contest entries and selected the 24 photos that best capture the concepts of growing city, real life, innovation, requalification and modernity. These images will be exhibited in a four-week show at Piazza Gae Aulenti starting January 15, 2014. This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to witness the evolution of Milan through the eyes of various talented photographers.
A winners gallery of these superb photographs is also accessible online at www.unicredit-tower.it and www.vivimilano.it.
