UniCredit acquires a minority shareholding of Banco Sabadell
UniCredit informs that it has acquired a 4% shareholding of Banco Sabadell for a consideration of approximately €416 million. Such investment strengthens the excellent relationship built between the two Groups which has led to the execution of a commercial agreement between Banco Sabadell (Solbank) and HypoVereinsbank for the mutual cross selling, in each respective country, of products and services of the other bank. Besides this agreement, Banco Sabadell and UniCredit are also actively seeking opportunities to develop further co-operation agreements in a number of other commercial areas with the objective to maximize value creation for their respective shareholders.
The investment effected by UniCredit in the share capital of Banco Sabadell is to be considered as a pure financial investment.
Banco Sabadell is the fourth largest Spanish banking group (seventh largest including Cajas). With total assets of approximately €73 billion as of 31 December 2006 and a current market capitalization of over €10 billion, Banco Sabadell has a staff of approximately 10,100 employees and approximately 1,200 branches focused mainly on the financial needs of small and medium sized companies, professionals and mid to high income individuals.
With a current market capitalization of approximately €79 billion, ranking among the top financial groups in Europe, UniCredit has a presence in 20 countries worldwide, with over 35 million clients and 7,200 branches, approximately 142 thousand employees and total assets of approximately €823 billion as of 31 December 2006.
