SIMULACRO ANIMALE PER TEMPI DI RAPIDO CONSUMO by CLAUDIA LOSI

UniCredit Group, in collaboration with the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali, presents the exhibition of Claudia Losi curated by Francesca Pagliuca

Spazio Trento
UniCredit Bank - Palazzo Firmian Branch,
via Galilei 1, Trento
28th April - 9th July 2010

From 28th April until 9th July 2010, the UniCredit Group, in collaboration with the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali ("The Tridentino Museum of Natural Sciences"), will feature a show by Claudia Losi entitled Simulacro animale per tempi di rapido consumo ("Animal Simulacrum in Times of Rapid Consumption"), curated by Francesca Pagliuca.
After her solo exhibition, STRIP MAPS Claudia Losi. Sguardo ed esperienza, which last October invaded the UniCredit branch in Piazza Cordusio, Milan, Claudia Losi presents a new project in Trento based on the dialectic between art and science.

A series of items - stuffed animals, minerals and fossils -taken on loan from the natural history collections held at the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali are combined with a number of works by the artist to make up a story told in images in the rooms of the Spazio Trento. The exhibition foresees the positioning of a number of different objects in various spaces around the Palazzo Firmian branch: from the Sala di Bacco (which will house Mukat, 2008, 15 pieces of whale fat in white ceramic), to the painted recess on the main stair leading to the piano nobile (featuring Brain, 2008: two whale brains in white clay coupled with fossils and minerals), up to the piano nobile itself: in the ex-entrance to the historical bank, in place of the original teller windows, there stands the series of drawings from the pages of the book entitled ST KILDA, OUTER HEBRIDES, SCOTLAND, 2007, from the UniCredit Group Collection.

In the branch there are also three photographs entitled Balena Project_Fiorenzuola d'Arda, Piacenza, 2008, in which a number of humans interact with a life-size whale - 23 metres long and 4 metres high - created in two-tone grey wool, and which reproduces as faithfully as possible the anatomic features of the common whale (Balena Physalus), the largest and fastest in the Mediterranean. In 2004 Claudia Losi starting work on this ongoing project linked to the whale: since then the whale has been animated, transported and recounted; it has gathered stories and stimulated imaginations, drawing a range of different gazes and energies.

Claudia Losi is one of the artists supported by UniCredit & Art through the production of projects and purchases, including complete sets of works such as her series of Celacanti, large square canvases covered in quilting, embroidered by hand with delicate designs (2006). Thanks to the support of the Group, the video ST KILDA, OUTER HEBRIDES, SCOTLAND Being elsewhere - Essere altrove, 2006-09 was also produced: a collective work created during a journey to the Outer Hebrides in the Atlantic Ocean.

Simulacro animale per tempi di rapido consumo, in collaboration with the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali and the University of Trento, thus involves a number of different organisations working on the local territory, and constitutes an opportunity for experimentation and crossover between different languages, in line with the implementation philosophy of the UniCredit Group through UniCredit&Art. For many years the Group has focused on the valorisation and protection of the cultural heritage of all the Countries in which it operates through a series of broad-based projects that foster dialogue between different fields, as well as favouring the sharing of values, integration and exchange between creative languages, with all due respect to the identities of each area.
