UniCredit is pleased to announce that it has received this year the "Best Bank in Italy" award by the British magazine The Banker, the reference publication which is part of the FT group.
UniCredit has also received the recognition as "Best Bank in Hungary".
The awards were announced last night during an official ceremony in London.
Gabriele Piccini, Country Chairman for Italy, said: "We are very pleased with being recognized as Best Bank in Italy by The Banker magazine. This a prestigious acknowledgement of the achievements of our group and all our people in turning around the Italian business while the Country was suffering a deep recession. Today, Commercial Banking Italy is firmly back to a sustainable profitability and is best placed to support the ongoing recovery of the Italian economy. In Italy, UniCredit has committed 100 bn € in lending in the years up to 2018 - of which 60 bn to companies and 40 bn to households, and has taken a leading role in helping Italian SMEs diversify their funding sources and gain access to capital markets".
The "Best Bank in Hungary" award reflects the good performance of the bank in that country and the importance of Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) for UniCredit. As outlined in the recently presented Strategic Plan until 2018, CEE will continue to be a driver for growth for the group.
