UniCredit: a certificate for gender equality and sustainability

The Group is expanding its range of investment solutions by issuing a 90% protection ESG Gender Equality Certificate, with placement from 12 October, aimed at Wealth Management and Private Banking customers in Italy.

UniCredit is expanding its range of investment solutions for Wealth Management and Private Banking customers in Italy with the issue of the 90% protection ESG Gender Equality Certificate.  Based on the UBS Gender Equality ETF, it can be subscribed between 12 and 28 October; the minimum investment threshold is €1,000, equal to the nominal face value of the certificates.

This innovative instrument, which is part of a global project for the Group's Private Banking and Wealth Management, puts gender equality and sustainability at the center of its strategy. With 90% capital protection, a cap of 19% and term of 5 years, it stabilises stable performance, with a controlled equity risk element against a scenario of  very low-yields.

The underlying Gender Equality ETF invests on the basis of the Solactive Equileap Global Gender Equality 100 Leaders index[i], which identifies the one hundred global leading companies in terms of Gender Equality issues according to 19 criteria, such as gender balance, work-life balance, transparency, accountability and sustainability policies.

Mirko Bianchi, CEO of UniCredit Group Wealth Management & Private Banking explains, "By issuing Gender Equality solutions we are offering investors in Italy, Germany and Austria the opportunity to benefit from systematic investment in global companies with cutting-edge governance systems and the potential for strong returns. By combining general criteria on gender equality and sustainability, this certificate represents a step forward in linking investments to the UN pillars for sustainable development, focused on ESG themes. UniCredit's commitment to ESG and its strategic objectives in this area demonstrate how sustainability is part of the Group's DNA, having chosen to fully integrate it into its corporate strategies. We see diversity as an asset for society, which can also generate a positive economic return for companies that know how to value it and carry it forward with determination and consistency. Managing our clients' assets must now involve a selection of sustainable investments that contribute to create a better society for future generations."

The Gender Equality Certificate will be launched by UniCredit during the Group's diversity and inclusion week, scheduled to begin on 12 October. This initiative offers UniCredit colleagues the chance to meet each other, to celebrate differences and better understand the benefits of an inclusive organisation.
