UniCredit launches Group-wide employee fundraising initiative to support Italian hospitals in the fight against Covid-19

Donations to be matched 10:1 by the UniCredit Foundation

In light of the unprecedented challenge faced by the Italian healthcare system, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, UniCredit has set up a Group-wide employee fundraising initiative to support three of the Italian hospitals most involved in the current battle against this new coronavirus, in terms of both patient care and scientific research.

Each 1 euro donated by employees will generate an additional 10 euro contribution from the UniCredit Foundation, up to a total of 1 million euros dedicated to this initiative.

Jean Pierre Mustier, UniCredit CEO, commented: "This initiative results from the strong desire of many colleagues across the Group to come together and do something concrete to help those in greatest need. This fundraising, open to all our employees, is to support and show appreciation for  the medical staff in Italy who are working tirelessly to care for patients affected by the new coronavirus and to help scientific researchers develop new solutions."

All UniCredit employees will be able to make their donations between 13 March and 31 March 2020.

The hospitals and research institutions that will be supported include:

  •  National Institute for Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani of Rome
  • Luigi Sacco Hospital of Milan
  • IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo di Pavia Foundation

This initiative is in addition to the recent decision of the UniCredit Foundation to support the Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda in Milan, through a donation of €200,000 in favour of the top-ranking public research hospital. The funds will be used for two specific initiatives: the set-up of a new hospital unit for infectious diseases and research into the prevention and treatment of the new coronavirus.
