On 31 March, UniCredit recognizes Transgender Day of Visibility, a day to celebrate transgender and non-binary individuals around the world and a moment to amplify voices and value in achieving equality and continued progress for all.
As evidence of its commitment to supporting and enhancing diversity, the Group has introduced a new set of guidelines for:
- Inclusive Language;
- Inclusive Recruitment; and
- Gender Transition in the workplace to continue to foster and build its culture of inclusion.
UniCredit's new DE&I Global Policy and guidelines are much more than a set of rules for its people to follow. They are part of the UniCredit culture: the guiding principles that are embedded in every aspect of the way the Bank operates - inside and outside of the workplace.
Diversity has multiple dimensions, including gender. And gender transition starts a long way before an official change in registered documents. UniCredit will do everything in its power to support its people in the transitioning process, providing guidance and assistance to all those involved from the beginning - including the colleagues, managers, and People & Culture Business Partners.
According to its new guidelines, UniCredit will therefore nominate, in consultation with the employee, a manager within the reporting line of the employee, to be the principal point of contact. The manager will agree with the employee an action plan for introducing and managing the transition at work, ensuring maximum support for the employee.
When the person in gender transition declares they are ready and, more generally, from the moment in which the communication of the gender change will be made, it is essential to adapt the language to the changed reality of the person with the adoption of preferred terms, pronouns, gender, and names as chosen by the employee.
UniCredit empowers its people to stand up for the transgender community and to make a difference by encouraging them to speak up and hold one another accountable.
UniCredit is committed to a zero-tolerance approach against any form of harassment, discrimination, and violence towards every person, client, or employee based on gender identity or gender expression. The Group's concrete way of creating an environment of equal opportunities for both employees and customers, also includes an innovative awareness project in Italy that ensures the identification of the Bank's clients in gender transition, guaranteeing the necessary support and service from the operators in UniCredit's branches.
Now more than ever, the Group understands that people play a critical role in ensuring everyone's actions contribute to building a better tomorrow. UniCredit continues to nurture and reinforce its ambition to create a culture of inclusion, achieving a fully inclusive workplace for all.
The Group will also light up the spire at its global headquarters right in the heart of Milan in honor of World Transgender Day of Visibility - standing up for the rights and giving visibility to transgender and non-binary people around the globe.
Guided by the Group's purpose to empower its communities to progress, UniCredit is strongly committed to creating and maintaining a respectful workplace with a shared mindset and values, moving towards a united and diverse community where employees are celebrated. To reinforce this notion, employees are empowered to feel safe and comfortable when reporting good faith concerns, without fear of retaliation through the Group's reporting channels. These efforts are backed by the Group's Executive Committee through the Joint Declaration on Equal Opportunities & Non-Discrimination and their support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to leave no one behind.
