UniCredit joins Venice Sustainability Foundation

Pan-European bank to advise VSF on areas ranging from green transition to social inclusion

UniCredit has today announced that it has become a co-founding member of the Fondazione Venezia Capitale Mondiale della Sostenibilità, or Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF).

The bank joins a broad range of institutions committed to making a concrete contribution towards building a sustainable future for Venice and its metropolitan surroundings, tackling a series of complex challenges that threaten the city's very survival.

At UniCredit, ESG is a collective mindset embedded across the bank's operations, with the aim of supporting its clients and communities in a just and fair transition.

As part of its membership, the bank will participate in several of the Foundation's initiatives and projects, contributing its views and expertise to working groups focused on green hydrogen, energy and environmental transition, and social inclusion.

Renato Brunetta, Chairman of the VSF, said: "UniCredit's entry as a co-founding partner of the Fondazione Venezia Capitale Mondiale della Sostenibilità will support the project's plans to safeguard Venice and its surroundings. UniCredit is a dependable partner that will provide an important contribution in attracting sustainable investments, guaranteeing reliability and expertise on issues related to the sought-after path of socio-cultural revitalisation of the area."

Francesco Iannella, Regional Manager North East of UniCredit and member of the FVCMS/VSF Steering Committee, added: "Becoming a co-founding member of the Venice Sustainability Foundation is a source of great pride for us - and, at the same time, a great responsibility. We understand the urgent need for structural interventions to ensure a sustainable future for all the communities in which we operate, and Venice, one of the crown jewels of Italian cultural heritage, is a clear example. We believe we can provide the Foundation with a concrete contribution, based on our expertise across all areas of ESG, from social inclusion to the green transition, to support sustainable investments and projects."
