Winners in Focus: Meet the first UCF Edu-Fund Winners

UniCredit Foundation announced the first 8 winners of the UCF Edu-Fund platform, awarding them with more than €3.5 million.
UniCredit Foundation has taken a significant step forward in its mission to empower Europe's next generation by launching the "UCF Edu-Fund Platform" in July 2024. The initiative aims to address the widespread and multifaceted issues of early school leaving and inadequate skills for university studies or job market entry.
With a multidimensional approach and a substantial funding pool of up to €14 million, the Platform is designed to support initiatives that tackle peripheral issues directly impacting the educational challenges faced by young people, particularly among lower and upper secondary school students aged from 11 to 19.

Education Without Backpacks' program "Better at Math with Khan Academy", Bulgaria.
The program aims to scale the implementation of Khan Academy at a national level by partnering with municipalities and regional departments of the Ministry of Education. Catalysing transformative change in math education, the initiative will enhance students' engagement and academic performance in math.
Lern-fair e V. with the program Lern-Fair: Scaling Digital 1:1 Tutoring for Educational Equity, Germany.
This initiative provides free, easy-to-access, digital 1:1 tutoring services for underserved students across Germany and beyond. Run on user-friendly app, it allows students and volunteers to register, match, and conduct their tutoring sessions in a flexible, digital environment.
ArbeiterKind.de's program "Empower e Connect: Volunteer Role Models Inspire Rural School Students from Non-Academic Families to Pursue Higher Education", Germany.
The 3-year program aims to reach out to 8,000 underprivileged school students, building their knowledge and confidence while ensuring they are well-informed and prepared for accessing higher education. The program focuses on school students aged 15-19 from non-academic families in rural schools across Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
Asociatia Visuri Indraznete with the program CampioMATE, Romania.
Developed in partnership with Romanian Math Scientific Society, this complementary learning program adopts engaging techniques such as video-gaming and sports to involve students across 700 secondary school in solving diverse math challenges. With their interest awakened, they can enhance the understanding of various math concepts easier and apply them more effectively.
Amigos for children Foundation's program "Amigos Hospital Program - for equal opportunities", Hungary.
Children hospitalised for extended periods often fall behind in school or even drop out. The Foundation brings together 250 university student volunteers, hospital psychologists, and teachers to create a structured information flow that enhances children's engagement, ensuring that no child is left behind, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Club Sportiv Gambitul Damei Iasi - Queen's Gambit Chess Club Iasi with the program "Chess in School", Moldova Region, Romania.
The program aims to introduce chess in local elementary and high schools as an additional educational tool, helping children acquire skills more easily while spending quality time at school.
Parsec Cooperative with the program "Compiti@Casa", Italy.
The programme addresses educational inequalities among middle school students in disadvantaged areas of Italy, including Lazio, Campania, Sicily, and Piedmont, by providing personalised academic support through online tutoring (developed by University of Turin) and social services. Each tutor, selected from partner universities, works with two students for four hours a week.

Focusing on personalising math education across Calabria and Campania, the program leverages the free Khan Academy platform. Using the Mastery Learning methodology, it tailors learning experiences to individual needs, particularly in the critical early years of middle school.
