Filarmonica della Scala’s 2013-2014 Concert Season
file

The Filarmonica della Scala announced its highly anticipated 2013-2014 schedule yesterday. With the new concert season, UniCredit celebrates 10 years as the main partner of the Filarmonica.

Conductor Georges Prêtre opens the season on Monday, November 4. He will be the first of an extraordinary roster of international conductors. We are happy to announce the return of the great Maestro Myung-Whun Chung and an appearance by the young David Afkham, the new principal conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra.

The legendary Filarmonica will also continue its tradition of including a performance by a guest orchestra in its concert schedule, an event that will feature the renowned Vienna Philharmonic this year. This superb and long-established orchestra has served as an inspiration and a model for the Filarmonica della Scala.

An array of gifted solo musicians and vocalists will appear in seven of the season's 10 programs, including young cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan and pianist Nikolai Lugansky.

Furthermore, several initiatives developed in past seasons by the Filarmonica della Scala and UniCredit will be carried out again this season.

The public will be able to purchase low-cost tickets to attend several of the orchestra's rehearsals, thanks to the well-known "Filarmonica della Scala Meets the City" program, with support from UniCredit and the UniCredit Foundation. All proceeds from the rehearsals will be donated to local non-profit organizations.

Additionally, the children's music program, "Sound, Music!," will feature Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring this season, building upon previous performances of music by Felix Mendelssohn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Director Francesco Micheli will again oversee this year's children's program. The "Borse di Studio" will also be continued, providing scholarships to the best young conservatory students. Also the "MusicEmotion" project that brings to movie theaters, in Italy and abroad, some of the orchestra's concerts.
