Meet Alessio Paolillo, Compliance Specialist in Group Anti Financial Crime

I joined UniCredit immediately after graduating in Linguistic Sciences, starting my career in Credit Monitoring. After seven years, I transitioned to the Compliance division in Group Anti-Financial Crime, specialising in Financial Sanctions.

A key milestone in my career was joining the Monitorship Liaison Office (MLO), where I played a vital role in executing a Group-wide remediation plan to enhance compliance with Financial Sanctions across multiple entities. I also supported three high-stakes external inspections requested by U.S. authorities—a demanding but transformative experience that strengthened my technical expertise, resilience, and project management skills. Successfully concluding these inspections remains one of my proudest achievements.

Today, I focus on OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) Compliance and support projects aimed at optimising Financial Sanctions tools across Group entities. To stay ahead of evolving regulations, I earned the CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) certification in 2020 and am now pursuing the CGSS (Certified Global Sanctions Specialist) certification, a goal fully supported by my organisation.

Compliance is like protective gear – it enables organisations to move forward safely, ensuring smooth operations while minimising risk. Just as a child wouldn’t rollerblade without a helmet and pads, businesses cannot operate without a robust compliance framework. My work, alongside other Compliance functions, helps the bank mitigate risks, avoid regulatory penalties, and protect its reputation, ensuring secure and responsible growth.

Beyond work, I’ve achieved a healthy work-life balance that allows me to pursue my biggest passion: volleyball. This passion was reignited thanks to a colleague – now a close friend – and for several years, we’ve played in a mixed amateur team, where I take on the role of middle blocker. While we’ve had great results, what I value most is the team spirit and strong bond we’ve built. The time we spend playing, having fun, and supporting each other is truly priceless.

For me, volleyball is more than a sport – it’s a way to recharge, connect with others, and enjoy life beyond work. Balancing my career in Compliance with this passion has been incredibly rewarding, bringing me energy and well-being. At the end of the day, what matters most is having fun and performing well – if trophies come, great! But no pressure – it’s all about enjoying the game.

Three words to describe my personality:

down-to-earth, easy-going, reliable.

protective, essential, challenging.

Meet Bruno Sampaio, Windows Systems Administrator

My name is Bruno Sampaio, and I am a Windows Systems Administrator at UniCredit. My primary responsibility is to ensure that all Windows servers in our IT infrastructure run smoothly 24/7, enabling seamless services for both employees and customers.

I’ve chosen this career path early in my life when I first encountered a computer. The curiosity and passion it sparked in me led to a deep fascination with technology. One of the most enriching experiences I’ve had at UniCredit was working in a massive IT environment during a large-scale Data Center migration. This opportunity gave me valuable insights into how big organisations like UniCredit tackle complex challenges.

The work environment here is incredible - there’s no old-fashioned micromanagement that stifles motivation. Instead, we thrive in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere where colleagues are always ready to help. The work-life balance and flexibility offered by UniCredit are priceless, and I’m especially grateful to my manager for always supporting and addressing our needs.

One of the most rewarding opportunities is participating in business trips. For example, we have visited our UK branch where I contributed to decommissioning servers in their Data Center, aligning future strategies and efforts for the company, all with the unwavering support of my team leader and manager.

Being part of such an encouraging environment has inspired me to seek out more ways to contribute. I have set myself the personal goal of becoming more involved in wider organisational initiatives to give something back and help make UniCredit an even better place to work. I firmly believe that with an attitude of respect, care, collaboration, and a continuous drive to improve, we can positively influence our organisation and evolve our culture. This transformation can, in turn, benefit society through better services and meaningful actions. Good examples have the power to inspire others, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

Knowing that I am part of a team that values and supports me motivates me to give my best every day and help UniCredit continue growing as a truly great place to work.
